Run Asset overview and WIP overview reports

Create, scope, generate and schedule the Asset overview and WIP overview templates, and read their daily figures and repeated pages.

Last updated

Open Settings → Data → Reports → Template library and choose Asset overview or WIP overview. Use the sample to create an independent draft, choose its assets, refresh the preview and publish it. Then use Generate now for a PDF or Schedule for recurring delivery.

Before you begin

Select the site whose assets you want to report on. Viewing templates needs report_templates.view; creating and changing layouts needs report_templates.create and report_templates.update. Generating and scheduling use the report permissions explained in Manage reports, including reports.run for manual runs and reports.manage for schedule management.

Both samples start with Yesterday as their default period. They use the same saved asset scope, but answer different questions:

TemplateUse it to review
Asset overviewThe report day's OEE, availability, downtime, stops and production steps, alongside week-to-date, month-to-date and six-week comparisons
WIP overviewWork waiting now in the buffers used by the selected assets, its value and age, past-due work and six-week end-of-day trends

Create the report and choose its assets

  1. Open Template library, search for Asset overview or WIP overview, and open the sample.
  2. Review its sample pages. Nothing is saved just by viewing them.
  3. Select Use template. Bulk creates an independent draft and opens the editor.
  4. On the Report inspector tab, name the report and check its default Period.
  5. Open Assets and review Assets in this report. Choose Asset lines, Asset types and any individual Assets.
  6. Read the resulting asset count. Select Refresh preview to see current data for the draft's scope.
  7. Wait for the draft to save, then Publish it when ready.

Lines and types narrow the selection together. For example, choosing Line A and Press includes active presses on Line A. Individually selected assets are added even if they do not match those line/type filters. Selecting only individual assets includes only those assets. Selecting nothing includes every active asset at the site.

A report covers at most 300 assets. If more match, the scope count says that only the first assets in line order are included. Narrow the scope before using the report as a complete picture. You can select at most 500 lines, types and assets combined.

Generate once

  1. On the published report card, choose Generate now.
  2. Check Reporting period. For Asset overview, the report day is the last day of that period. Its day, week-to-date and month-to-date figures are anchored to that day; a longer selection does not turn the daily figure into the whole period's total.
  3. Read the asset-scope summary. To change assets, return to the report settings; the generate dialog uses the saved scope.
  4. Select Generate PDF and wait for Report ready.
  5. Use Open PDF if the automatic new tab is blocked. See Open the generated report.

One-off generation does not email recipients. A WIP report's As of label describes the current buffer snapshot at the run; it is not a reconstruction of the selected day's live buffer. Its historical chart is the end-of-day series.

Read Asset overview

The sample uses A4 portrait and contains these sections:

SectionWhat to read
Headline figuresOEE and Availability against the site's targets, Downtime, Steps started, Steps completed and Stops, with WTD/MTD comparisons
Longest downtime eventsStart, asset, line, reason, total time, notes and comments for the report day
Last 6 weeksOEE and availability by day, downtime hours by week and loss type, completed steps by week and routing type, plus a week-by-week table
Asset linesEach line for the day, week to date and month to date, followed by the selected-assets total
A repeated page per lineAssets, downtime by reason and production starts/completions by routing type for that line

Started and completed figures count job steps on the selected assets. Downtime counts every stop; availability uses stops whose reason is an availability loss. OEE and availability leave out days when an asset recorded nothing. Weeks start on Monday, and the last week in the six-week trend ends on the report day.

OEE and availability colours use the site's Targets and Amber band. Stop duration compares with the usual stop duration: longer than average is amber, and at least twice the average is red. See Set site performance targets.

Read WIP overview

A buffer is a resource where a job is waiting at its lowest open routing step. This report includes the buffers used by the selected assets. Selecting assets determines which buffers are included; it does not limit a shared buffer to only work reserved for those assets.

The first page shows WIP in buffers, Past due, and 15 days or more, followed by WIP by buffer and a six-week End of day WIP value by buffer chart. A separate page repeats for each buffer, with By routing type and that buffer's own End of day WIP value chart.

The age columns are 0-2 d, 3-7 d, 8-14 d and 15 d+. Past due is a separate view of overdue work, so do not add it to the age columns as another exclusive bucket. Age cells with value show fresh work as green, 8 to 14 days as amber, and 15 days or more or past due as red; 3 to 7 days is plain.

WIP value uses the workspace reporting currency. Read the report's notes if currency conversion or setup is incomplete; missing conversion is not proof that work has no value. Buffer value targets are set per site under Resources. A target is green at or below its value, amber up to 20% over, and red beyond that. This 20% rule is separate from the site's performance Amber band.

Schedule either report

On the published card choose Schedule, select run time and days, and choose recipients. The schedule uses the site's time zone and the saved report scope. Confirm the report and cadence before selecting Create schedule. Each scheduled run reevaluates the report relative to its run date; Yesterday is useful for a morning review.

Use the schedule's pause switch to stop future deliveries, or Run & download for a manual run. Review results under History. Follow Manage reports for the complete schedule controls.

Troubleshooting

  • The scope has fewer assets than expected. Check active status, site, line/type filters and the 300-asset cap. Individually picked assets are added to the filtered selection.
  • WIP differs from a yesterday-only total. The buffer headline is a snapshot at the run. Use the As of label and end-of-day trend for context.
  • A line or buffer produces extra pages. Those pages repeat for each included line or buffer. The sample's editor pages are layout definitions, not the final PDF page count.
  • Colours differ between WIP and equipment targets. Performance uses percentage-point targets; WIP uses a currency value and a fixed 20% over-target amber range.
  • The PDF does not open. Use Report ready / Open PDF, or recover the run from History.
