Complete company setup
Answer five questions to build a safe demo of your company, then review what to keep when you create the live site.
Bulk calls its current first-time setup Company setup. It asks about your business, builds a working demo site, and lets you explore before you create a live site.
When Company setup opens
A new workspace with no site is sent to Company setup automatically. As soon as the workspace has any active demo or live site, the rest of Bulk becomes available. You do not have to go live to unlock the app.
The older five-step Modules, KPIs, Build, Plan, and Done wizard no longer controls access to Bulk.
Before you start
- Sign in to the new workspace.
- Have a simple description of what the company makes and how work moves through it.
- You need permission to create sites. The person who creates the workspace normally has this permission.
Build your demo
- Choose a business type. Pick the closest ready-made option, or choose Custom — Build with AI to describe the business in your own words.
- Answer five questions. Each question offers suggested answers, including one marked Recommended. You can write your own answer instead.
- Watch the company panel. The panel beside the questions fills in as you answer. Your answers are saved, so you can leave and return to the first unanswered question.
- Review the plan. Check the departments and roles, what the demo will contain, and the capacity forecast.
- Select Build my demo.
The roles in the plan are job descriptions. Company setup does not create user accounts, invitations, or passwords. The capacity forecast is guidance, not a bill or production limit. Work done in the demo does not count toward it.
If the plan is wrong, describe the problem under Something not right? and select Redraw the plan. Bulk returns you to the question that controls that part of the plan. There is no separate configuration editor in this flow.
Selecting Build my demo again, including from another tab, does not create a second demo. Bulk resumes the same build and creates only what is missing.
When the demo is ready, select it from the site switcher. The first-run gate is now lifted, so you can use the whole app without creating a live site first.
Know when you are in a demo
A warning banner stays at the bottom of every screen while a demo site is selected. It explains that:
- the site contains fictional data;
- it sends no ERP messages, webhooks, email to real people, or real invoices; and
- it is temporary and will be deleted when the live site is created.
The banner is a warning, not an input lock. You can add realistic information while testing. Bulk's demo safeguards prevent that information from leaving Bulk.
Everyone who can open the demo sees the warning. The actions shown in the banner depend on the person's permissions.
Reset, clear, or delete the demo
People with permission to delete sites see three actions in the banner:
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| Reset demo | Removes everything in the demo, then rebuilds the original example data from the same template. Information you added is not kept. |
| Clear activity | Removes jobs, runs, events, and their history. The demo's configuration stays as it is. |
| Delete demo | Removes the demo and everything in it. The site disappears from the site switcher and cannot be restored. |
Each action first counts and lists what would be removed. To continue, type the site code exactly as shown. The check is case-sensitive. The confirm button stays unavailable until the count is ready and the code matches.
Finish running work first
Running production timers, active uploads, or work still being imported can block an action started from the demo banner. If it is blocked, Bulk removes nothing and lists what you must finish. Finish that work, then start the action again. A blocked banner action does not resume by itself.
Review and create the live site
If the selected demo belongs to the current Company setup run and you can create sites, the banner shows Review and go live.
The review groups the planned configuration into parts you can keep or remove:
- Core work model is marked Required and cannot be removed.
- Other parts, such as currency, departments and people, and customers, can be removed.
- If another part depends on your choice, Bulk removes that dependent part too and explains the cascade. For example, removing currency also removes customers that use it.
- Undo restores the last removal and its cascade. Select it again to undo earlier removals one step at a time.
Select Continue to open the final confirmation. Before the create button becomes available:
- Check the warning that the demo and everything in it will be deleted.
- Check the live site name prefilled from Company setup, and change it if needed.
- Enter a live site code. The demo's code cannot be reused while the demo still exists, so enter a new available code.
- Check the time zone shown from the setup plan.
Demo rows are not copied
Creating the live site does not convert or copy the demo. Bulk creates a new site from only the configuration you kept. Jobs, activity, fictional records, and anything you entered in the demo do not carry across.
Select Create the live site and delete the demo only when you are ready. Bulk creates the live site first, then removes the demo from the site switcher. If running work blocks the remaining background cleanup, the live site is still created and cleanup retries automatically. This differs from a reset, clear, or delete action that you start from the banner.
If something goes wrong
- The setup opens again after you return. Continue the saved run. Bulk resumes at the first unanswered question.
- The demo build stops. Select Build my demo again. The same build resumes without duplicating the demo.
- A reset, clear, or delete action is blocked. Finish every item listed in the dialog, then open the action and confirm it again.
- The confirmation button is unavailable. Wait for the removal count, then type the site code with the same capitalization.
- Review and go live is missing. The button appears only for the demo created by the current setup run and only when you can create sites.
